MO attorney general opposes revisiting WOTUS

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt has sent a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers opposing the Biden administration revisiting the Waters of the U.S. rule.

Schmitt calls the move a land grab saying WOTUS threatens Missouri farmers and ranchers’ livelihoods. He says the Navigable Waters Protection Rule protects water quality and provides certainty and clarity.

The EPA announced last week that it and the Department of the Army intend to revise WOTUS to better protect the nations water resources. EPA Administrator Michael Reagan says the two government agencies have determined the Navigable Waters Protection Rule is leading to ‘significant environmental degradation’.

Missouri Cattlemen’s Association President Patty Wood is supporting Schmitt saying WOTUS is an invasion of private property rights allowing EPA to control ‘every drop of water in the country from a mud puddle to a farm pond’.
