Dry conditions aid in proliferation of Soybean Cyst Nematode

A member of the SCN Coalition says it’s a well-known fact drought conditions increase soybean cyst nematode pressure.

University of Georgia nematologist Melissa Mitchum tells Brownfield researchers are trying to understand why that’s the case.

“But there’s definitely a correlation. So the lower moisture levels in the soil are going to enhance the ability of the nematode to complete its life-cycle and reproduce.”

Several states that struggle with SCN pressure are dealing with continued hot, dry weather.
