Minnesota farmer looking at marketing opportunities beyond 2021

A corn and soybean farmer in west-central Minnesota is looking at marketing opportunities beyond 2021.

Kirby Hettver of De Graff tells Brownfield he’s weighing the pros and cons of some of the high market action two to three years out.

“That’s something that I’m trying to evaluate and come up with that strategic plan. How does it influence our rotation? How does it influence what we plant next year?”

He says selling ahead could have a snowball effect on his operation.

“It’s great to be in this situation, we’ve not been here for quite a while. There’s some opportunities to look at, so we’ll likely make some minor changes to our rotation and adjust accordingly to what the market’s asking for.”

Hettver says anytime he’s marketing grain he takes into account crop insurance coverage as a way to mitigate risk.
