Are you looking for an opportunity to give back to the community and serve others? Then, the Lunch Place in Waynesboro is waiting to hear from you.

Located in Christ United Methodist Church at 100 S. Church St., the nonprofit has become a staple in the community for serving hot meals to anyone who needs them.

“The Lunch Place has been providing meals and fellowship for the community for over 30 years," explained Marge Kiersz, president of the organization's board.

The Lunch Place in Waynesboro is in need of volunteers to help support its mission of serving the community.

Recently, the need has arisen for a few more helping hands to prepare the food and serve the group as it hopes to move to indoor dining from takeout.

“Out team, they did a great job during COVID, we stayed open and did a take-away lunch, but a lot of them want to reduce their hours and we are looking to go to inside service but we need more volunteers to do that," Kiersz said."There is a lot more prep work, service and cleanup that needs taken care of in contrast to the take-away lunches."

According to Kiersz, about 40 meals are prepared and given out each day. "It's a full meal, such as a sandwich, salad and dressing and a dessert. On any given day, we have four volunteers, and we really could use six per day," she said.

In addition to the volunteers, the Lunch Place is looking to hire a part-time cook to assist the full-time staff with meal preparation. "It would be about 25 hours a week," Kiersz said. "The applications for that position are due by June 30."

Hours of operation are Monday thru Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
