Minnesota corn, soybean planting more than 2 weeks ahead of normal

Six days of suitable weather allowed Minnesota farmers to further surpass the typical planting pace.

The latest weekly crop report from USDA says corn planting, at 95 percent complete, is more than two weeks ahead of the five-year average.  Corn emergence is 39 percent, two days faster than average.

Soybean planting advanced to 88 percent done.  That’s just over a week ahead of last year and more than two weeks ahead of normal.

Spring wheat is 84 percent emerged and checks in at 78 percent good to excellent in its first condition rating of the year.

oat and barley planting is nearly finished, potatoes are 82 percent planted, and dry beans are at 52 percent.

Hay condition statewide is rated 64 percent good to excellent.
