Courtney Love condemns 'vile' Hulu series 'Pam & Tommy,' Lily James' Pamela Anderson portrayal

Courtney Love is defending friend Pamela Anderson after the release of first-look images of Hulu's upcoming series "Pam & Tommy," calling it "vile."

The "Live Through This" singer decried the series which the streaming service said is based on "the true scandal that started it all": Anderson and then husband Tommy Lee's 1998 sex tape.

On May 7, Hulu released the first images of Lily James, as Anderson, and Sebastian Stan, as Lee, for the upcoming limited series. James shared a photo on her Instagram, quoting Anderson in the caption, "It’s great to be blonde. With low expectations it’s very easy to surprise people."

In an expletive-filled Facebook post shared Sunday, Love called the series "outrageous."

"My heart goes out to Pammy further causing her complex trauma," Love wrote about the series, directing ire at the lead actress. "And shame on Lily James whoever the (expletive) she is." Love added the hashtag #vile.

Love recalled that she was in the recording studio with Hole musicians — drummer Patty Schemel and Melissa Auf der Maur — when Anderson and Lee's sex tape was leaked.

"The staff engineers / producers / owners / were watching the sex tape with huge schadenfreude," wrote Love. "It was disgusting. I banned anyone discussing it. It destroyed my friend Pamela's life."

Love said in the post that she had been "shocked" and rejected a request for the "piece of (expletive) production" to use a Rolling Stone cover featuring her image. She turned it down.

Another photo from the "Pam & Tommy" first look featured Stan as the Mötley Crüe drummer, complete with dark black hair, a nose ring and his infamous "Mayhem" stomach tattoo. The photo shows James seductively biting one of his nipple rings, in addition to the "Baywatch" star's notorious barbed-wire arm tattoo.

People on social media collectively agreed the duo looked "spot on."

A release date for the Hulu series has not been announced.

Anderson and Lee tied the knot in 1995 and divorced in 1998 following a tumultuous relationship. Anderson has said "the rock-star thing became very destructive."

"I didn't know what I was doing. I just kind of became that thing," she told Elle in 2014. "The hair, that rock-star kind of lifestyle, just living a dream. It kind of took over. It started out very innocent and then I turned into a cartoon character. And I started to feel like a cartoon character."

Anderson and Lee share sons Brandon, 24, and Dylan, 23.
