SAN ANGELO — The first Railway Days Festival managed to avoid inclement weather and draw a steady crowd to the Railway Museum of San Angelo on Saturday.

The event was hosted to raise money to help the museum continue offering an entertaining, educational experience to visitors.

The event included vendor booths, live entertainment, music, refreshments and a collection of 'treasures' for sale consisting of decommissioned items recently uncovered in one of the rail cars next to the museum.

Museum board member Linda Bond said she hopes the festival will help support continued operations and some new projects at the institution.

"We've had a wonderful response and a lot of people coming to the museum who've never been here before," Bond said. "One of the things about a museum like this is it's completely self-supporting. We are all volunteers. And we have bills and that's why we are doing this. We really want to thank the community for their support. We feel like, the more people get to know about the museum, the more they'll want to come here. We are looking at doing some rotating exhibits in the future, and so we think there're some fun things we can do and that's what we are working toward."
