Northeast Iowa farmer desperate for Mother Nature to bring moisture
A Northeast Iowa farmer says he’s waiting for rain. “It’s dry. It’s really showing in pastures and hay fields, all of it.”
Matt Hoeft who farms near Charles City in Floyd County says the cool and dry conditions are hindering his corn crop emergence. “It’s up but it doesn’t look good. It has poor color, it’s yellowing,” Hoeft says. “We haven’t had any heat. I think we had highs in the low 60s and we’re down to the low 30s. We had some light frost areas this week. We need some heat, and we need some moisture.”
He tells Brownfield conditions have been dry throughout the planting season. He finished planting corn on April 30th and the crop “was kind of in powder. There was no moisture there.”
Hoeft says the forecast is promising but isn’t getting his hopes up.
