SAN ANGELO — Crowds of people lined the streets Wednesday to pay respects as the body of a Concho County Sheriff's deputy was brought to San Angelo.

Sgt. Stephen Jones was one of two deputies killed on Monday in Eden. At about 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2021, an honor guard escorted his body to Johnson’s Funeral Home in San Angelo from Lubbock.

Oncoming traffic into the area was closed temporarily as Jones's body was taken to the funeral home at 435 W. Beauregard Ave.

Citizens were seen lining the streets, blocks from the funeral home.

Blue flags were raised, right hands were seen over people's hearts and crying sniffles were heard as the slain deputy passed with police from all over the state.

Cloudy skies and cool wind made the procession even more sorrowful.

People gather for a procession of police vehicles following the hearse carrying the body of Concho County sheriff's deputy Stephen Jones on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.
