Police work the scene of a car-pedestrian crash at Sixth Street and N. Cleveland Avenue on May 11, 2021.

A 41-year old Sioux Falls man died after being hit by his own car in eastern Sioux Falls on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Sioux Falls officers were called to E. Sixth Street and N. Cleveland Avenue at 1:20 p.m. for a report of a car that struck a pedestrian, police spokesman Sam Clemens said in a press release.

A 2014 Jeep Cherokee was stopped in traffic at the intersection waiting to make a left turn when the man driving a Honda Accord struck the back of the Jeep, according to Clemens.

As the man in the Honda stepped out of the vehicle, the vehicle started to go in reverse and the man got caught under the car as it began making circles, the release said. The man was freed shortly after and then run over by the vehicle.

The Honda eventually stopped after hitting a Chevrolet Silverado pickup in the area.

The man died from his injuries, according to the release. The name of the man is being withheld pending notification of family members
