$150 back after $500 with new UPromise Mastercard offer

1

The new cardmember offer on the Upromise Mastercard has now increased to $150 cash back after spending $500 on purchases in the first 90 days. While that isn’t the most valuable welcome bonus on the market, it is competitive in terms of offers requiring very little spend and could therefore make for a nice little win for someone with relatively low expenses.

Quick Thoughts

The Barclays Upromise Mastercard offers a paltry 1.25% cash back on all purchases unless you have your account linked to an eligible college savings plan, in which case it offers a still-tepid 1.529% cash back, which could easily be beat long-term with a card that offers 2% cash back like the Fidelity Rewards Visa or the Citi Double Cash.

However, unlike those cards, this one offers a nice intro bonus and could thus be an OK choice for a starter card for someone beginning on a credit card journey or someone who would have difficulty meeting the spending requirements on more premium cards or perhaps someone who has run through so many cards as to be searching on the fringes for additional bonuses.

Overall, this isn’t a terribly compelling offer, but it could be a good fit in the right circumstances.

I love the idea behind this card and rounding up to top off your 529, I just wish they actually rewarded you on everyday spend for jumping through all these hoops. Add a big spend or portal bonus, or anything that pushes it closer to 2%, really.
