  • This offer excludes purchases made at discount stores.
  • Grocery Stores, including supermarkets, are classified as merchants that provide a complete line of food merchandise for home consumption. This offer includes convenience stores which are classified as merchants who sell a limited variety of food items. Gas Stations are classified as merchants that primarily sell vehicle fuel for consumer use. Drugstores are classified as merchants that sell prescription and proprietary drugs and nonprescription (over-the-counter) medicines. Mass Transit & Commuter Transportation Vendors are classified as merchants that provide mass passenger transportation including railways and buses, bridge and tunnel fees and temporary parking, but does not include the purchase of Amtrak tickets.
  • ThankYou Points earned will be posted to the primary cardmember’s account in 1-2 billing cycles.

Quick Thoughts

This is a decent offer if you’re targeted because it shouldn’t be too hard to max out the offer considering the eligible categories include grocery stores, gas stations and drugstores.

Note that there’s a limit of 2,500 additional points, so with an additional 4 points per dollar on offer, you’ll max this out when spending $625 rather than $500 because you’d already be earning 1x on your spend.

Whenever Citi sends out these targeted offers, there are usually multiple versions. It’s likely that some non-ThankYou cards (e.g. American Airlines) will also get similar offers for 5x in whatever earning currency those cards have (e.g. AAdvantage miles), or that other ThankYou cardholders will get a 5x offer but for different categories such as electronics stores and department stores. That kind of offer isn’t quite as good, but it can still be useful if it’s eligible at stores like Best Buy.

Update: Sure enough, there are other offers available. Those have been added to the list above – thanks to Flashman and NK3 for details about those.

Amtrak seems have discontinued point transfer to Choice Hotels. Any thoughts on that? What to do w my Amtrak points (I don’t ride it anymore)? Thanks.

Total bummer, but it looks like you’re right. Hilton Honors is still an option at 5K Amtrak to 10K Hilton. The points are worth more toward train travel, but a transfer to Hilton beats letting the points languish if you aren’t going to ride the train anymore.

On my Double Cash card I received an extra 4% back (6% total) on online purchases, up to an extra $25. Definitely an easy one to max out.
