If you are traveling this weekend, watch out for some road work in central Pennsylvania that could slow you down — or even cause a major delay in your trip.

Interstate 83 North will be reduced to a single lane in two spots in Harrisburg. One of the restrictions will be in place for most of the weekend.

Meanwhile, a line painting operation on Interstates 83 and 81 is set to begin on Sunday.

Watch for major traffic delays on I-83 North in the Harrisburg area this weekend because of roadwork.

The longest restriction this weekend will be on I-83 North in a construction zone between Union Deposit Road (Exit 48) and the I-81/I-83 split.

I-83 North will be down to a single lane starting at 9 p.m. Friday. The restriction could last until 6 a.m. Sunday. The contractor will be shifting traffic onto a newly constructed portion of the highway.

Major delays are anticipated, PennDOT says. Drivers should seek a different route.

Another section of I-83 North also will be reduced to a single lane for much of Saturday so that crews can make repairs to a bridge spanning Paxton Street.

I-83 traffic will only be allowed to use the right lane from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. between the 13th Street and 19th Street ramps in Harrisburg. The center and left lanes will be closed, PennDOT says.

And on Sunday, crews will begin line painting on Interstate 83 in York County and Interstate 81 in Franklin County.

The work is expected to take about a week.

Crews will be doing the work from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday night through Friday morning. The only exception is a stretch of I-83 from the Glen Rock exit (Exit 8) to the state line. That work will be done from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

Drivers will see short-term lane closures where crews are working.

Crews will be surveying the road surface on I-83 through the Mount Rose work zone on Tuesday, a news release states.

Drivers will see rolling roadblocks between Exit 16 (Queen Street) and Exit 21 (Route 30). The work will be done between 9 a.m. and noon.

Crews plan to start at Queen Street and head north to Route 30. Then they will head south on the highway.

They will complete three passes in each direction.

Ramps will be blocked while crews are working in the area.
