Hanover native becomes the oldest woman to win an Oscar, at the age of 89

Hanover native Ann Roth became the oldest woman to win an Oscar Sunday night when she won the costume design prize for her work on the Netflix drama “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”

At 89, the costume designer is tied with screenwriter James Ivory for being the oldest Oscar winner, according to a story in the Los Angeles Times. Read the complete story here.

Ivory won in 2018 for “Call Me by Your Name.”

Roth has been nominated for an Oscar five times. She won in 1997 for her work on “The English Patient.”

She has been nominated for three Emmy Awards and 12 Tony Awards, winning in 2013 for best costume design for a play for “The Nance.”
