Soybean growers zero in on waterhemp
Waterhemp is in the crosshairs of soybean growers as the 2021 growing season begins.
Shawna Hubbard, Enlist herbicide product manager for Corteva, calls the pigweed species a very tough customer.
“And a good example of a really hard-to-control broadleaf that was one of the drivers of why we brought the Enlist weed control system to market.”
She tells Brownfield waterhemp is a very adaptable and competitive weed that shows increasing resistance, emerges late in the season, and is a prolific seed producer that can grow an inch per day.
“So that profile (and) just understanding what we’re dealing with in waterhemp makes us extra conscious of our management plan around that weed and how we deal with it.”
Hubbard says the Enlist weed control system can help growers spray waterhemp at the right time with the right tank mix partners and with the right sprayer setup.
