NACD pleased with Conservation Reserve Program enhancements

The National Association of Conservation Districts is pleased with the USDA’s decision to expand and renew the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP).

NACD President Michael Crowder says the changes will incentivize participation in the program.

“We’re nearly four million acres under the cap of 25 million acres established in the 2018 Farm Bill and we want to make sure we get closer to the cap of the amount of acres we can put in CRP,” He says. “Today Ag Secretary Vilsack announced they’re increasing the payment rates, they’re going to have more incentives, and then target climate change mitigation.”

He tells Brownfield CRP is one of the most successful volunteer conservation programs.

“There are million of acres currently enrolled and it’s a powerful tool for conservation, farmers and ranchers, wildlife, and the environment,” he says.

Crowder says the announcement will strengthen the program and support landowners.
