MO rice planting kicks into gear

Missouri’s corn and rice planting picked up last week. The USDA says cool, dry weather helped farmers get into the field.

Corn planting reached 14 percent complete, nine percent behind the five-year average. One percent of the crop has emerged.

Soybean planting has begun with one percent of the crop in.

More than a quarter of the rice crop is planted with two percent of the crop emerged.

Four percent of winter wheat has headed.

Topsoil moisture is 79 percent adequate and subsoil moisture is 86 percent adequate.
