Earth Day to serve as climate goal sounding board for dairy

The dairy industry is using Earth Day as a segue into sustainability efforts of farmers.

Heather Oldani, executive VP communications for Dairy Management Inc., tells Brownfield, “Earth Day gives us that special moment in time when consumers and others are thinking about the earth, thinking about environmental stewardship.”  “It gives us that moment to shine a spotlight on dairy farmers’ stories,” she says.

She says it also gives an opportunity to discuss the industry’s Net Zero goals.

“We have research, we have data that shows that the practices that dairy farmers are imploring right now, today, and over the last several years are having a significant impact and leaving a positive environmental footprint.”

On social platforms, Oldani says the dairy checkoff has partnered with Vox to release a video on what happens to nutrition and the environment if the U.S. dairy herd was removed.  They’ve also partnered with other influencers to reach millennial parents, Gen Zers, and thought leaders.
