Man arrested in connection with four-acre brush fire north of Ventura

Firefighters responded to a brush fire that spread to approximately four acres in size north of Saticoy on Saturday afternoon.

The fire was first reported around 3:57 p.m. in the area of Harmon Canyon and Foothill roads.

A fire helicopter was dispatched to perform water drops on the fire burning in mountainous terrain. By 5 p.m. the fire was reported to be holding at four acres in size with no immediate threat to lives or property, according to authorities.

Units from the Ventura Fire Department and Ventura County Fire Department responded to the incident. The fire was declared contained by 5:45 p.m.

Hours after the incident, Ventura police contacted a 24-year-old man found near the start of the fire and learned he had dropped a cigarette in the area, unintentionally causing the fire. He was arrested on several misdemeanor violations, including reckless action resulting in fire and trespassing, and booked into county jail.
