A Thousand Oaks man arrested earlier this month for an alleged hate crime in Camarillo was charged in a second hate crime incident dating back to last year, the Ventura County District Attorney's Office said Friday.

Kyle Davis, 35, of Thousand Oaks, was originally arrested on April 5 after an incident involving a 70-year-old Black man. The man was driving in Camarillo with a car that had "Black Lives Matter" painted across the rear window. Upon seeing the car, Davis drove up next to him, yelled racial slurs at the driver and threw an object that hit the victim's car, officials said.

The second hate crime occurred months earlier on Sept. 12, 2020, in the city of Thousand Oaks. According to prosecutors, Davis approached an 18-year-old Latina woman on a street corner who was holding a sign that read "BLM." Davis proceeded to threaten the victim, grabbed the sign out of her hands and ripped it apart, authorities said.

When Davis was arrested on April 5, deputies entered felony charges of elder abuse, assault and violating a person's civil rights. The charges were later modified by the District Attorney's Office to misdemeanor violations. For the September incident, Davis was charged with petty theft, vandalism, and violating a person's civil rights, also all misdemeanor violations.

Davis has yet to appear in court for the charges. He is due to be arraigned at 9 a.m. Monday in room 36 of Ventura County Superior Court.
