Friday COVID-19 update: Ventura County reaches sobering milestone of 1,000 deaths

One thousand Ventura County residents have died from COVID-19 as of Friday, according to the latest public health update.

Three new deaths reported on Friday brought the county to the sobering milestone. The deaths involved a 65-year woman, a 76-year-old woman and a 94-year-old woman, county officials said.

Ventura County also recorded 44 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases recorded in the pandemic thus far to 80,230 cases.

Among nonfatal cases, Ventura County has 256 actively infectious cases, while 78,794 have recovered from the virus. There are currently 15 hospitalized cases of COVID-19, with three receiving treatment within intensive care units. The county processed 5,960 COVID-19 test results on Friday, bringing the total number of tests performed up to 1.33 million.

In terms of vaccinations, the county recorded 21,585 additional doses administered on Friday, bringing the total up to 561,155 doses. The data includes 351,361 first doses administered, which account for 51.7% of adults age 16 and older who are partially vaccinated, and 209,794 second doses, representing 34% of the same population.

Vaccines are open to all residents age 16 and older. Appointments can be made by visiting MyTurn.ca.gov. The next data update will be provided Monday. More information is available at www.vcrecovers.org.

  • Fillmore: 2,632 (+11)
  • Port Hueneme: 2,415 (+7)
  • Ojai: 1,003 (-2)
  • Oak Park: 402 (+2)
  • Oak View: 372 (+5)
  • Piru: 358 (+2)
  • Somis: 251 (+4)
  • Bell Canyon: 20 (-1)
