One person was killed in a car accident in east Camarillo Friday morning.

The crash was reported around 8:07 a.m. at the intersection of Mission Oaks Boulevard and Adolfo Road, according to Ventura County fire and sheriff's reports. The intersection is near Camarillo High School.

Ventura County sheriff’s investigators operate a drone above the scene of a fatal crash at Mission Oaks Boulevard and Adolfo Road in Camarillo Friday morning, April 16, 2021.

The accident involved a minivan and a small box truck. Each vehicle had two people inside, according to Ventura County Sheriff's officials. The sheriff's office is contracted to provide police services in Camarillo.

A 77-year old Camarillo woman riding in the front passenger seat of the van was declared dead at the scene, authorities said.

Three people were taken by ambulance to local hospitals, some with serious injuries. All were said to be in stable condition Friday afternoon. The injured included an 85-year-old Camarillo man and a 27-year-old Oxnard man.

The sheriff's preliminary investigation found the minivan had been traveling westbound on Mission Oaks when it entered the intersection and collided with the box truck, which had been headed southbound on Adolfo, authorities said.

Both vehicles remained at the scene Friday morning as investigators took measurements and a sheriff's drone team documented the scene from above. The van, with visible damage to its front and passenger side, had come to rest on a sidewalk at the west corner of the crossing between a block wall and the pole of a traffic signal. The truck remained in a southbound lane of Adolfo with heavy front-end damage.

The accident closed lanes around the intersection for hours as authorities investigated.  Sheriff's officials were still determining the cause as of early afternoon.

No other information was immediately available.
