NPPC seeking increased pork exports to Vietnam

The National Pork Producers Council is seeking increased U.S. pork access to the Vietnamese market.

NPPC’s Jim Monroe tells Brownfield that will be a priority discussed during this week’s virtual Spring Legislative Conference where the organization’s members will meet with their congressional representatives.

“Pork producing competitor nations have access at a 7.5 percent tariff rate, our tariff rate is 15 percent,” he said. “So, that’s a pretty significant advantage.”

Monroe said Vietnam’s pork supply is struggling because of African Swine Fever.

“They need affordable, reliable sources of pork and there is no more reliable, affordable source of pork than the United States,” Monroe said.

The legislative conference begins Wednesday and runs through Friday.
