South Dakota spring wheat planting well ahead

Spring wheat planted is well ahead of normal. The USDA says soil moisture is still low with only 39 percent of topsoil rated as adequate. Twenty-seven percent of subsoil moisture is rated adequate.

Winter wheat is rated 38 percent good.

Spring wheat planting progressed to 30 percent, 25 percent ahead of last year.

Oats planted reached 20 percent with two percent of the crop emerged.
