Southeast Minnesota farmer takes advantage of mild start to April
Farmers in southeast Minnesota are taking advantage of a mild start to April.
Jim O’Connor of Blooming Prairie tells Brownfield he and other corn and soybean growers in the area were out in force last week.
“We had some incredible weather and people got excited, and we were able to get some spraying done, get some rocks picked, and fertilizer spread.”
He says this week looks more like mid-April for southern Minnesota.
“Where it’s beautiful one day, and 40 degrees the next. They’re talking a possibility of frost later in the week, so we’re just doing some tile repairs.”
O’Connor says the planter is hooked up and ready to go, and the seed has been delivered.
“Everything is here (and) when Mother Nature says it’s time to go, we’ll be ready to go.”
He describes soil moisture as adequate to get a crop started, but says there’s very little excess water.
