Vanderburgh County surges over 51,000 residents fully vaccinated against COVID-19

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Vanderburgh County on Monday reported 425 residents fully vaccinated against COVID-19, bringing the total to 51,407.

At the same time the county reported 12 new coronavirus cases and no new deaths, bringing Vanderburgh's toll in the pandemic to 21,960 cases. All the data can be found on the Indiana State Department of Health's statewide dashboard of cases and the state agency's COVID-19 Vaccination Dashboard.

The vast majority of Vanderburgh County's reported 51,407 fully vaccinated residents — 49,769 — got there by taking both stages of the two-dose Moderna or Pfizer vaccines. Monday's report of 425 fully vaccinated residents included just 15 who had taken the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

In all, Vanderburgh, Warrick, Posey and Gibson counties report 83,863 fully vaccinated individuals. Statewide, the number is 1,410,070.

Warrick, Posey and Gibson counties also reported no new coronavirus-related deaths Monday.

There have been 393 total COVID-19 deaths in Vanderburgh County since the first one occurred April 6 of last year. Warrick County has reported 155 deaths, Posey 33 and Gibson 88.

The state reported 908 new cases of COVID-19 and three new deaths on Monday. The pandemic's toll stands at 699,823 cases and 12,746 deaths statewide.

Gibson County reported one new case, Warrick County four and Posey two. Seven-day positivity rates for individuals in those small counties were a mixed bag. Warrick ticked upward from 12.4% on Sunday to 12.5%, while Posey swung dramatically downward from 14.3% to 8.3%. Gibson County's positivity rate went from 18.9% Sunday to 14.6%.

All three of those counties are marked "yellow" on the ISDH's color-coded map, which uses the colors blue, yellow, orange and red to represent outbreak severity. The map is updated on Wednesday of each week. Vanderburgh County is the only area county remaining at "blue," the safest level.

Vanderburgh County's seven-day positivity rate for individuals did rise on Monday to 11.9%, compared to Sunday's 10.4%.
