One injured after apartment fire in Sioux Falls on Sunday

One person suffered minor injuries after a fire at an apartment in northern Sioux Falls on Sunday, authorities said.

The fire happened at approximately 2 p.m. Sunday, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue said in a news release. They were dispatched to a possible structure fire at an apartment building at the 600 block of West Bennett Street.

Upon arrival, first arriving fire crews witnessed light smoke coming from a garden level apartment. Witnesses reported the occupant was out of the apartment, but had sustained minor injuries before exiting, the release said.

Fire Department personnel cared for the occupant until PCEMS ambulance arrived on scene and transported the patient to a local hospital for further observation. Fire crews entered the apartment and found a small fire in the kitchen area. The fire was extinguished within five minutes of arrival, the release said.

Fire and smoke damage was mostly contained to the first floor of the building and no other occupants were displaced, according to the release.
