San Angelo blood drive offers $500 grand prize, here's how to donate

SAN ANGELO — A blood drive is coming to town and will offer a western-themed prize just in time for the San Angelo Rodeo, according to a Vitalant news release.

The Ross Roundup Blood Drive will be in San Angelo from April 12-23, and donors will receive a Chick-fil-A coupon and a chance to win a $500 grand prize. The prize is a western-themed gift basket valued at over $500, plus a dinner for two at King Krabz, according to the release.

People can donate at the Vitalant Donation Center, 2020 W. Beauregard Ave., Monday-Wednesday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Thursday from noon-7 p.m. or Friday-Saturday from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

Mobile blood drives will also be available. Here's when and where those mobile drives will be:

  • Cecil A. Ross Investment & Insurance Group, 5301 Knickerbocker Road, from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday, April 19.
  • Shannon Medical Center from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 20.
  • Shannon Medical Center from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday, April 21.
  • Shannon Medical Center from 8:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22.

The mobile drives at Shannon Medical Center, 120 E. Harris Ave., will be in the hospital parking lot near the clinic.

Donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Potential donors ages 16-22 will need to meet additional height and weight requirements. Donors 16 years old must present a minor donor permit signed by a parent or guardian, which can be found at Vitalant.org.

Appointments are encouraged and can be made by calling 877-258-4825, visiting Vitalant.org or downloading the Vitalant app.
