The Adult Literacy Council of the Concho Valley is holding a "gigantic book giveaway" the next four Saturdays, said the council's executive director, Marilyn Golightly.

The Adult Literacy Council, 59 E. 6th St., has hundreds of boxes of books that will be available for free from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 10, 17 and 24, and May 1.

The ALC is a nonprofit, community-based literacy program serving 13 counties in the San Angelo area.

Among the services they offer are free classes in English as a second language, U.S. citizenship classes, high school equivalence preparation, computer skills, basic literacy, financial literacy and Bible study.

Their normal business hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday.

Golightly said a recent large donation of books added to what was already a growing surplus, which made these book giveaways necessary.
