MO farmer taking what Mother Nature gives him
A west-central Missouri farmer started corn planting on Monday but is now working around some rainfall.
Daniel Carpenter farms with his dad and two brothers in Ray and Carroll Counties. Carpenter tells Brownfield he’s taking what mother nature gives him.
“We’re not trying to push the corn planting window to quickly,” he said. We’re still kind of looking at slightly lower temperatures than we’d like to for corn planting. But, at the same time, it’s April and we’re ready to get started too. So, that’s about where we’re at.”
He said he’s targeting April 15th to the 20th to start soybean planting. Carpenter credits a fair winter and early spring for allowing earlier planting saying there were stretches in November and February prime for field work and…
“These last 10 days have been pretty productive as far as getting into the field goes,” he said. “So, a lot of guys in the area are wrapping up with their anhydrous applications, dry fertilizer applications and getting started, by all comparisons, slightly faster than average.”
Carpenter said conditions this spring have been slightly dry, especially when compared to the abnormally wet springs the last two years.
