Office of USTR releases Biden 2021 Trade Agenda

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative is seeking a “fair international trading system that promotes inclusive economic growth and reflects American values.”

That is among the goals outlined in President Biden’s 2021 Trade Agenda and 2020 Annual Report to Congress, which details a comprehensive trade policy that USTR says supports efforts to help the U.S. recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and build back better.

On China, the report says USTR will not continue the unilateral approach of the previous administration.

USTR nominee Katherine Tai, at her confirmation hearing last week, referred to China as a rival, trade partner, and outsized player.

“Whose cooperation we’ll also need to address certain global challenges. We must remember how to walk, chew gum, and play chess at the same time.”

The President’s trade agenda also says it will restore U.S. global leadership by combatting forced and exploitative labor conditions, corruption, and discrimination against women and minorities around the world.
