The Indiana FFA state officer team is visiting with members across the state during National FFA week.

State Treasurer Evan Coblentz says it’s one of the first times the 2020-2021 state officers have been able to meet members in person because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“I have been doing some classroom facilitation this week, we went bowling, and I have some game nights coming up,” he says. “We’re super excited to have the opportunity to get out and interact with members and embrace all of this year and everything it has to offer with its challenges and the way we can take those challenges and grow from them into better leaders than can serve agriculture as a whole.”

He tells Brownfield chapter visits have been a bright spot.

“There’s just something different about seeing members where they are,” he says. “You get to see the programs they come from, you get to tour their ag facilities, and it’s just really cool to step onto their home turf because then the members get to take ownership and feel a stronger connection with a state officer.”

Coblentz says his experience as a state officer has been incredible and he wouldn’t change anything about it.

“I would do this year over again in a heartbeat,” he says. “The things that you learn, the training you go through, and the opportunities you have to impact members have been highlights.”

Advice he has for FFA members who are interested in getting more involved in the organization is to try something new and be yourself.

“Don’t leave any part of you behind and just always remember to be yourself when you’re participating in activities because there is somebody out there that needs you to be you,” he says. “Bring yourself fully into whatever activity you’re doing and if you have a full heart, you’ve got nothing to lose and you’re going to learn at least something from that experience.”

Planning for the Indiana State FFA Convention is well underway. Coblentz says it’s not yet clear if the event well be virtual or take place in person.
