USWNT World Cup winners Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris announce adoption of baby girl

U.S. women's national soccer team players Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris had a particularly memorable Valentine's Day.

The pair – who were wed in December 2019 – announced the adoption of a daughter on Sunday. According to an Instagram post by Krieger, the adopted baby was born on Feb. 12 and her name is Sloane Phillips.

"Dear Birth Mom.. Our promise to you: We promise Sloane will be loved every single day by us, our friends and our family," Krieger wrote. "We promise to give her the tools to live a happy, successful life of inclusivity and support. We promise to share her adoption story with her from the very beginning and celebrate every milestone!"

Krieger – a defender – and Harris – a goalkeeper – were both members of the 2019 World Cup-winning team. The pair also plays professionally for the Orlando Pride of the NWSL.

"Welcome to our family, Sloane Phillips.. we are so in love with you already!" Krieger wrote on Instagram. "This has been one of the most beautiful yet stressful processes I’ve ever experienced with you, @ashlynharris24 and I love you even more throughout this journey, if that’s even possible."

This life development might also explain why both Krieger and Harris were left off the USWNT roster for the SheBelieves Cup, which kicks off Thursday in Orlando.
