South Carolina women's basketball coach Dawn Staley paid tribute to legendary Temple men's basketball coach John Chaney with her outfit for the Gamecocks' matchup with No. 5 Connecticut.

Chaney, who won more than 700 games in his career between Cheyney State and Temple, which he coached for 24 years, died Jan. 29 at the age of 89. A memorial service was held for the coach on Temple University's campus in Philadelphia on Monday.

To honor the late Hall of Fame coach, the 50-year-old Staley – a Philadelphia native who was a colleague of Chaney's at Temple as she started her own coaching career at the university in 2000 – sported attire that became one of Chaney's signatures over the course of his career: a white button-down shirt with a big collar and a loose black tie.

Chaney, who won the 1978 Division II national championship while at Cheyney State, is a member of both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and College Basketball Hall of Fame.

Staley, also a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame like her mentor, has been the head coach at South Carolina since leaving Temple in 2008. She guided the Gamecocks to the 2017 national championship.

Unfortunately for Staley, her top-ranked South Carolina team fell for the second time this season as UConn won 63-59 in overtime.

South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley and UConn coach Geno Auriemma meet before Monday's game.
