MILWAUKEE — A driver is lucky to be alive after his truck careened off an exit ramp bridge in Wisconsin and plunged about 70 feet, landing in the lanes of Interstate 94.

The accident, which happened just before 10 a.m. Saturday in the Zoo Interchange, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, was captured by a Wisconsin Department of Transportation camera.

The video shows a red pickup truck crashing into the side of a ramp and toppling over it, falling about 70 feet to the road below as cars pass by. It appeared to land backwards, on its wheels.

When deputies arrived, they found the pickup upright in the right distress lane of the westbound I-94 lanes, the sheriff's office said. Two people were on the scene providing aid to the vehicle's lone occupant. The driver was conscious and breathing and did not show signs of impairment, authorities said.

A preliminary investigation by the sheriff's office indicated the male driver was driving on the ramp from westbound I-94 to southbound I-41 when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle traveled up a snowbank, proceeded over the barrier wall, and dropped onto the westbound I-94 distress lane.

The Milwaukee Fire Department transported the driver to a local hospital. No other information about the driver or his condition was immediately available on Monday.
