Missouri winter wheat conditions down

Winter wheat conditions declined in Missouri during January.

The USDA says 49% of Missouri’s winter wheat crop is rated good to excellent, down 4% from the start of the month, with 45% called fair, unchanged, and 6% in poor to very poor condition, up 4%.

That compares to just 39% of Missouri’s winter wheat being rated good to excellent this time last year.

Statewide, temperatures averaged more than four and a half degrees above normal, while precipitation was fractionally below average.

Topsoil moisture levels declined, but subsoil moisture levels improved.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume in April.
