Franklin County Chairman Commissioner Dave Keller announced Thursday that all 911 service has been restored to the county.

PEMA officials report that service to the other dozen counties had been completely restored by 1 .

That means all 911 emergency non-emergency phone lines and all Franklin County Department of Emergency Services call center operations are functional.

"Franklin County has an outstanding network of emergency service providers who stepped in to receive direct calls from residents with emergencies. Fortunately, no serious issues were reported as a result of the outage," Keller said in a statement.

Service was out for approximately 20 hours.

Original story

Adams, Franklin and Cumberland counties are without phone 911 services.

Dave Keller, chairman of the Franklin County commissioners, said service is out because of a cut fiber line in Maryland. Officials have not been given any indication when service will be back online.

“If you text 911 (in Franklin County), that still works, Keller said early Wednesday evening. “I don’t know about the other counties, but we have had that available for several years now.”

Keller said officials in Maryland are working on rerouting the line until a fix can be made, but they are still working on that plan.

In Adams County, officials from Adams Regional Emergency Medical Service, Inc. advises people to call one of the three fire stations that house ambulances:

  • United Hook and Ladder in New Oxford (717-624-7456)
  • Gettysburg Fire Department (717-334-8300 or 717-334-7548)
  • Fairfield Fire & EMS (717-642-8842)

United Hook & Ladder’s Bonneauville station does not have a landline, so the New Oxford station would have to be called with those emergencies.

PSP says texting 911 does not work in Adams County, so residents are asked to keep their local numbers handy.

The Sentinel, in Carlisle, reports that Cumberland County has put temporary emergency lines in place for people to call before calling their nearest emergency services provider.

Officials said 911 services have also been lost in Beaver, Bedford, Butler, Clarion, Fulton, Greene, Juniata, Mifflin, Perry and Somerset counties.
