Dairy risk management program enrollment up

The USDA says nearly three-quarters of all U.S. dairy farms are enrolled in the Dairy Margin Coverage program for 2021.  USDA says about 18,500 farms are enrolled compared to just over 13,500 in 2020.  So far, USDA says the program has paid out more than 500-million dollars in 2019 and 2020.  Margin payments triggered seven months in early 2019 and during four months of 2020.

USDA says three thousand dairy operators signed up for the Dairy Revenue Protection program, which covers about 30% of the nation’s milk supply and paid out over 400-million dollars in 2019.  About 200 producers purchased Livestock Gross Margin Dairy coverage.
