Following the storming of the U.S. Capitol Building, many of President Donald Trump's apologists and sycophants are being slammed as "enablers" who helped pave the way for the violence of January 6. The Wall Street Journal's conservative editorial board, however, rises to the defense of Trump's allies in an editorial published on January 18 — two days before the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden — and the piece is receiving a great deal of negative reactions from Trump's critics.

"As the Trump presidency ends in the disgrace of the Capitol riot, an effort is already underway to erase everything in the last four years as disgraceful too," the WSJ's editorial board argues. "That's a lie — a big lie, to borrow the cliché of the moment. Donald Trump's profound character flaws need to be separated from what so many people in his administration accomplished for the country."

The WSJ's editorial board goes on to praise Trump allies ranging from former Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao and former White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney to members of his economic team, including Larry Kudlow. The piece credits Trump's team with creating a "pre-COVID U.S. economy" that was the "strongest since the 1990s."

"A presidency is more than one man, as we will soon learn the hard way as progressives populate the Biden Administration," the WSJ's editorial board writes. "The Trump Administration should be remembered for far more than its terrible final days."

Here are some of the negative reactions to the editorial that have been posted on Twitter:
