Zooey Deschanel calls boyfriend Jonathan Scott her '2020 MVP' in sweet Instagram post

Zooey Deschanel doled out her own award for MVP of 2020. The winner? Her boyfriend, "Property Brothers" star Jonathan Scott.

The couple, who met in October 2019 while filming a "Carpool Karaoke" segment for "The Late Late Show with James Corden," celebrated the new year hugging in a series of photos taken by Deschanel's father Caleb that the actress shared Saturday on Instagram. 

"My 2020 MVP was this guy, who always made me feel happy in spite of a weird and uncertain year," wrote Deschanel, 40. "Hoping 2021 is full of silver linings for everyone." 

Scott, 42, returned her sentiments in the comments section: "You make me the happiest, best version of me," he wrote. In his own post, Scott wrote that 2021 would be dedicated to "love, happiness and the pursuit of helping others" but noted he has a "good jumpstart on the love part." 

In September 2019, Deschanel and her estranged husband, film producer Jacob Pechenik, confirmed to USA TODAY they were splitting, days before she and Scott went public with their relationship. 

"After much discussion and a long period of contemplation we have decided we are better off as friends, business partners and co-parents rather than life partners," a joint statement from Deschanel and Pechenik read. 

The two tied the knot in June 2015, a month before welcoming their first child, daughter Elsie, 5. They also share a son, Charlie, 3. 

Deschanel and Death Cab for Cutie musician Ben Gibbard were married from 2009 to 2012. Scott was previously married to Kelsy Ully. 

Deschanel and Scott have shared various photos of themselves together, from their first red carpet appearance together at the Critics' Choice Documentary Awards in November 2019 to Scott's brother JD's wedding to a Halloween date night.
