Drought concerns persist in central Illinois

Rains last week helped alleviate dry conditions in south-central Illinois, but drought concerns persist for the central part of the state.

The latest US Drought Monitor released today shows a large strip of central into northern Illinois is abnormally dry with a smaller portion in central and eastern Illinois considered moderately dry. Parts of Christian, Mason, Sangamon and Logan counties in the heart of the state are experiencing extreme drought conditions.

The Illinois State Climatologist’s office reports little to no rain forecasted for the next seven days, leaving farmers in those areas looking to the longer-range forecast for drought relief.
