The National Weather Service on Guam is monitoring a large trade-wind disturbance to the southeast of the Mariana Islands, expected to bring heavy showers. Rainfall of 3 to 5 inches is possible. The heaviest showers are expected Thursday night.

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding, a very serious situation, the Weather Service stated.

The community is advised to monitor forecasts and take precautionary actions should a flash flood warning be issued or heavy rains occur, the Weather Service advised.

COVID on Guam: Low CAR score needed for next 2 weeks to lift COVID-19 restrictions. What is it?

Residents should:

  • Clear drainage areas and unblock clogged storm drains to minimize the chance of flooding.
  • Avoid walking or driving through flood waters. Just 6 inches of moving water can knock you down, and 2 feet of water can sweep your vehicle away
  • Be prepared to move immediately to higher ground if there is a chance of flash flooding.
  • If floodwaters rise around your car but the water is not moving, abandon the car and move to higher ground. If the water is moving, don’t leave the car.
  • Avoid camping, parking or hiking along streams and rivers during heavy rainfall; they can flood quickly and with little warning.
