LANSING – Thanksgiving passed as officials urged people to celebrate in small groups to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Some people spent Black Friday shopping, buying gifts and personal items on the retail holiday. Face coverings and social-distancing was encouraged and some stores used capacity limits.

No chaos: Black Friday shoppers find smaller crowds

State officials did not report new cases or deaths on the Thanksgiving holiday. Here's a look at data reported Friday:

Positives, deaths reported over two-day period

The state Department of Health and Human Services said the Friday case update included positive test results reported to state over a two-day period. An average of 8,581 people test positive per day.

A reassessment of deaths by the state’s Disease Surveillance System and the state Department of Health and Human Services revealed 108 additional COVID-19 deaths. The reassessment is done three times per week to determine if a death certificate matches to a COVID-19 patient.

Unmatched deaths are reported to appropriate local health departments by MDSS.
