LANSING – Police are investigating a possible homicide on the city's south side.

Officers were called to an apartment in the 5900 block of Richwood Street about 9:20 a.m. Wednesday for a welfare check and found a 66-year-old man dead, Lansing Police Public Information Director Robert Merritt said in a news release.

A 24-year-old male who was at the scene was taken into custody, Merritt said.

Police released no other details about the incident, including how the older man died, and did not say if the suspect and victim were related. But they said they believe there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Merritt said crime scene investigators were still at the scene on Wednesday afternoon and were trying to piece together the circumstances surrounding the death.
