Ag economists say COVID will condense Thanksgiving

A recent national survey by Michigan State University ag economists says Thanksgiving gatherings could be down by nearly 60 percent this year because of the ongoing pandemic.

Report author Trey Malone says COVID-19 continues to disrupt food systems as consumers alter holiday plans with more than 70 percent of participants saying they were limiting traditions because of health concerns.

Survey respondents said they’re planning for smaller gatherings up to five people, serving smaller turkeys, and half are avoiding traveling. 

More than 40 percent of those surveyed also said they plan to do holiday shopping online.
