Cyndi's Two Cents

Thankful.

Commentary.

Thanksgiving week is a time to look back at the year and make a list of those things for which I am grateful.

I am thankful that I have not lost family members to COVID-19.  Although some have had it and were very sick, none had to be hospitalized.  I have friends who have suffered every symptom associated with the virus and other friends whose mother, father, brother, sister, spouse or child have died after contracting it.

I am grateful for the high speed wi-fi internet on our farm.  I’m so fortunate that our local electric cooperative was a pioneer in providing fiber-optic internet so I am able to connect as needed for my job off the farm and for those times we need to connect for farm business.

I am thankful for the customers who buy Rocking P Ranch cattle for their farms and beef for their freezers.  I am thankful for good genetics and a husband who is a masterful stockman.

I appreciate living in a place where I can enjoy clean and clear sunrises, sunsets and glorious skies filled with stars at night and daytime blues.  Living in the country, on a farm can be a hard life but for me, it is the best life.

I am thankful for a full larder, a deep well, and the ability to grow our own food and always having enough to set another plate at the table.

Despite the polarization in this country today, I am thankful to have been born in the greatest country in the world.  I enjoy freedoms many people only dream about.  God Bless America!

Although I complain about being too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter, what a blessing it is that I live in a part of the country where I can enjoy all 4 seasons – most years.  Sometimes spring and fall seem to fly by much too quickly!

I am thankful for friends and family that love unconditionally.  I am grateful for their honesty, loyalty and trustworthiness.

I am grateful for modern technology and old-fashioned horse sense.  I appreciate a good joke and a belly laugh, hot coffee on a cold morning and the big bald eagles that show up on our farm this time of year.

I am thankful the surgery I had during the summer was successful and there was no sign of cancer.  I healed quickly and easily managed the pain.

In so many ways, 2020 has been the year we would all like to see in the rearview mirror, but it forced many of us to slow down and appreciate all that we have.  During the times when your outlook is bleak, I encourage you to make a list of those things for which you are thankful.  It is good for the soul.

Happy Thanksgiving!
