Daily COVID-19 update: Nearly 500 more Greater Lansing residents test positive

LANSING — As Thanksgiving approaches, COVID-19 cases across the state and in the Lansing area continue to surge. 

With continued widespread community transmission, hospitals are facing more and more pressure. 

Here's a look at data reported Monday. 

495 more Greater Lansing residents test positive 

On Monday, state officials reported 11,511 more people across the state had tested positive for the coronavirus and 65 more Michiganders died from COVID-19 over the weekend.

Locally, 495 more people tested positive, and 3 more people died of COVID-19: 

  • 98 more Clinton County residents tested positive 
  • 136 more people in Eaton County tested positive 
  • 261 more Ingham County residents tested positive 

One resident died in each county over the weekend.

Since March, 314,216 people in Michigan have tested positive and 8,543 have died.  

That includes 12,688 Greater Lansing residents who have tested positive and 148 who have died.   

Available hospital space shrinking

As of Friday, more than 75% of inpatient beds and more than 85% of critical care beds in a nine-county region that includes Clinton, Eaton and Ingham counties, according to data provided by the state. 

Occupancy was at 72% for inpatient beds and 83% for ICU beds at the start of last week. 

All but 377 adult inpatient beds and all but 22 adult ICU beds were occupied Friday, according to state data.

Hospitals in the region were treating 263 adults and three children, including 80 people in the ICU, who had tested positive on Monday, the state reported.

Additionally, 133 people visited emergency rooms at regional hospitals with COVID-19 symptoms or reasons otherwise related to the disease on Sunday.
