Bringing more innovation to ag

The chief technology officer for UPL says more innovation in the ag industry is needed.

Adrian Percy, chief technology officer for UPL says their new OpenAg Center, which opened this fall, allows UPL to create partnerships with innovators who can transform agriculture.  “There is a surprising number of smaller companies with really cool technologies which have been developed over the last few years,” he says.  “We believe we can help those companies bring those technologies to growers, and speed up the whole process and get them access to the market.”

He tells Brownfield they’re starting with problems growers face and then working to find a solution.  “Those problems can be widespread resistance to a number of products,” he says.  “Whether they are herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides.  They can be new biological products that growers are looking for or they could be hit new sectors – like soil health.”

The OpenAg Center is located in Research Triangle Park, NC, and has climate-controlled research glasshouses on-site, along with laboratories to support the application, delivery, characterization, mode of action, and resistance research.
