A crash involving three vehicles near a busy Simi Valley intersection also damaged one home and left three people injured Sunday afternoon, according to the Simi Valley police department.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., the driver of a Toyota Prius struck a minivan, which then collided with a Buick sedan, near the intersection of Sinaloa Road and Royal Avenue, according to Sgt. Lincoln Purcell, a spokesperson for the department.

The Prius then hopped the curb, just missing a gas meter, and hit the home, causing “minimal” damage, according to Purcell. Initial reports feared that the crash caused a gas leak but it had not.

There was a foot-and-a-half puncture hole in the stucco, which “didn’t penetrate the drywall,” Purcell said.

“Building and safety cleared the house,” Purcell said.

Although the Prius driver walked away with “bumps and bruises,” according to Purcell, the three-car accident sent three other people to local hospitals. Two were transported to Los Robles Regional Medical Center and one was transported to the emergency room at Adventist Health hospital in Simi Valley.

No arrests were made. Police do not suspect alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.

Police later cited two drivers who did not obey the cone pattern steering cars away from the scene.

The intersection of Sinaloa and Royal was closed for a couple of hours and reopened at around 4 p.m. Sunday.
