LANSING — A suspicious death investigation has turned into a homicide case after an Ingham County medical examiner ruled a man's death was foul play.

Samuel Gregory Hinkle, 43, was found dead in an apartment in the 5500 block of Joshua Street Thursday, Lansing Police Public Information Director Robert Merritt said in a news release.

Police were called at about 11:20 a.m. Thursday to the apartment building for a man in need of medical attention, Merritt said.

Officers found Hinkle unresponsive in the apartment and Lansing Fire Department officials pronounced him dead, Merritt said.

Hinkle's death was originally classified as suspicious. It was changed to a homicide after the medical examiner conducted an autopsy.

No arrests have been made, Merritt said. He said he did not have information on Hinkle's cause of death or the type of medical attention needed Thursday.

Anyone with information on Hinkle's death can call LPD at 517-483-4600, Detective Matt Salmon at 517-483-6855 or Crime Stoppers at 517-483-7867.
